Naked 2: Swatches and Review



Good Afternoon

So one of the gifts I received at Christmas was the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. It cost me £37, which is a substantial amount of money but I feel that it's a good investment for the future. As I am still very much considered a makeup 'newbie' I was not quite sure of the difference between the three palettes. An incredibly helpful Urban Decay representative took me aside an explained them throughly before suggesting that my pale skintone suited the Naked 2 more.

The Packaging
The packaging is a simple brown tin case, with the words 'NAKED 2' and 'URBAN DECAY' written on the front in raised writing. It is very nice and feels very sturdy. If it gets dirty with makeup caked fingerprints (let's face it,  makeup gets everywhere) it can easily be wiped down. I much prefer the case design when compared to what I've seen of the original Naked palette. The velvet casing of the original Naked doesn't look as strong (correct me if you have found differently). The case has a magnetic closure, which is a great idea if you want to travel with the palette; it won't open in your handbag. 


The Inside
On the inside of the lid is a huge mirror; larger than what I expected. I think that the palette was made to be on the go; everything that you would need in a ittybitty package. The palette consists of twelve eye-shadows, all of which are more of a taupe hue than the original Naked. There are three matte shades in the palette, while the rest are all shimmer. The shades, in order, are: Foxy, Half-Baked, Bootycall, Chopper, Tease, Snakebite, Suspect, Pistol, Verve, YDK, Busted and Blackout.

The Brush
The brush is great quality considering it just came with the palette. It's the same colour as the case and features two different brushes; one for patting on the colours and another for blending. The brushes are very soft and fluffy, which is a perfect quality in makeup brushes. 

The Shadows


Foxy
Foxy is a pale yellow, reminiscent of butter, eye-shadow with a matte finish. As I have very pale skin this colour barely shows up on me unless it's been packed on (as seen in the swatch). I feel that the formula has a slight chalky feel to it that I'm not a big fan of. This will probably work best as a highlighter for my brow bone.

Half-Baked
Half-Baked is a golden copper toned eye-shadow with a shimmery finish to it. I've seen that this was featured in the original Naked palette and was considered something of a 'cult' favourite. I think that the colour pay off is great, especially when compared with Foxy. I can definitely see this getting a lot of future use.


Bootycall

Bootycall is a light champagne colour with a shimmery effect. I love it! It will make a fabulous colour for all over the lid, or as a inner corner highlight. The colour pay off is as could be expected on me but the shimmer makes up for it vastly.


Chopper

Chopper is very similar to Half-Baked, I feel, except that it's a reddish copper instead of a gold copper.  It's full of micro-glitter which makes it a very eye catching shade. 


Tease
Tease is a mid-tonal matte brown with purple undertones. I regularly use this shadow as my everyday crease colour. It is such a pretty colour on any eyes, but nicely emphasises my green eyes.

Snakebite
snakebite is a very muted, dull bronze shimmer shade. It almost has a metallic effect which I find to be perfect for more dramatic night-time looks.

Suspect
Suspect is a pale golden eye-shadow with a frosty shimmer effect. It is of a similar shade to Half-baked, but not quite as golden and the tone is cooler. This is definitely one of the shades that I will use on a regular basis.

Pistol
Pistol is a greyish, smokey brown shade that has only a very slight shimmer to it. I think that this could be the ideal shade for a simple night-time look that requires not so much effort.


Verve
Verve is a light grey tinged beige colour with plenty of shimmer in it. I find it to be a good shade for highlighting the inner corner of the eye, or on the other hand, using it all over the eye for a bright eye effect.

YDK
YDK is a pale copper colour with a shimmer effect to it. It is a less red version of Chopper, and also appears to be a bit duller too. It is another shade that I am very excited to use more in the future.

Busted
Busted is a deep, reddish toned dark brown eye-shadow with a frosty shimmer effect.  It would be a perfect shade for a smokey eye effect. The deep red hints to the colour would help to offset green eyes.

Blackout
Blackout is a very intense, deep black eye-shadow that is the last matte effect shadow in the Naked 2 palette. There is not much else to say about it as, since it is a matte black, it is very versatile.

MAC: Fraud or Not?

It's getting to the time of year when  people start gathering together all there gifts in the rush to the holiday season. They start trying to get the best gifts possible for the best price they can. Unfortunately that leaves them vulnerable for people to take advantage of them. The most common form of this is through the use of counterfeit goods.  Recently a MAC lipstick was purchased for me, as a Christmas gift, from eBay. When I learned of it I was immediately sceptical and dubious of how genuine it was; I like to research into the item and view the pictures available myself. When I checked the listing, the lipstick was listed as 'MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick'. Upon looking at the details and the images available, I noticed that there were very few specifics and one general image of the lipstick with the lid off. Totally Fabby MAC Lipstick!

I'm in the middle of shopping for new products; sort of preparing for the transition from winter to spring. Instead of picking up deep burgundies and warm chocolates, I have started to pick up pastel pinks and vanillas. I cannot wait of the warmer weather to roll in.  MAC frost lipstick in the shade Fabby was one of those new seasonal additions I picked up recently. Fabby is a really muted rosy pink shade with a frost finish. The draw point, for me, is the frost sheen gives kind of a golden overlay to the lips. The golden tone just adds an extra dimension, and helps brighten up any makeup look.  For being a frost finish, the colour pigmentation is quite opaque with a single swipe. The texture is not that creamy, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I'd describe it more as very similar to that of a MAC matte finish; creamy and not glossy. I feel that Fabby is one of MACs more overlooked shades; passed over in favour of the more hyped about lipstic

Barry M Colour Changing Lip Paint in Neptune

Remember way, way back, back to the very beginning of my blog. One of the very first products that I reviewed was the Barry M Lip Paint in the shade Genie. For those who don't know, Genie is an unusual colour changing lipstick. While it looks green in the tube, it turns a shade of pink on the lips that is supposed to be different for each person. It is supposed to be a result of the lipstick reacting to the alkaline level of the lips.
