Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! Hope you all have an amazing Halloween. Halloween fell off my radar this year, what with me being preoccupied with University dissertation work. But, even so, I still have this special post for you all.

Two days ago, before Halloween, I decided to carve my very first pumpkin ever! It was always something that I wanted to do each time Halloween came on by, but this is the first time in which I had ever managed to do so. And I'm so proud of the result, considering I didn't really know how to do it! So this here is a little guide for all the other first time pumpkin carvers, so that you may find it a bit easier than I did.

Get all the tools you need together: this will save you time later, than having to rummage for them all as you go. For your chosen template, pre-cut all the shapes so that you're all ready to go. Then mark out on the pumpkin surface with a pencil or a fine liner, so that you have a rough guide of where you are cutting. I used a mechanical pencil so that if I changed any of the placements, you would not be able to see any of the markings.

Next, slice a large hole in the top where you want the lid to be. Make sure that it is large enough for you to fit your hand in. Now is the messy part, remove all of the pumpkins guts! I found that really hard as all the stringy mulch was attached to the walls of the pumpkin. Eventually, after removing all the seeds, I took a pair of scissors to the inside and trimmed away as much as possible.

Then you want to start carving your design. This would have went so much easier for me if I had bought one of the specialty carving sets from the supermarket. Instead I used a small knife and a lot of patience. I would retrace that shape with the knife, just lightly marking the surface, before committing and doing the actual carving. This part took the longest out of everything; the more intricate your design the longer it will take.

Once that's finished, all you need to do is grab a small tea-light candle of your choice, light it, and that it. Your beautiful carved creation should be glowing happily.

The pumpkin I carved was the Cheshire Cat from Disney's Alice in Wonderland. I really love how he turned out, especially for my first time carving. I declare that all my pumpkins from this Halloween forth will be disney themed.

Did you carve a pumpkin this year? What did you carve - traditional spooky face or something different?

MAC: Fraud or Not?

It's getting to the time of year when  people start gathering together all there gifts in the rush to the holiday season. They start trying to get the best gifts possible for the best price they can. Unfortunately that leaves them vulnerable for people to take advantage of them. The most common form of this is through the use of counterfeit goods.  Recently a MAC lipstick was purchased for me, as a Christmas gift, from eBay. When I learned of it I was immediately sceptical and dubious of how genuine it was; I like to research into the item and view the pictures available myself. When I checked the listing, the lipstick was listed as 'MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick'. Upon looking at the details and the images available, I noticed that there were very few specifics and one general image of the lipstick with the lid off. I immediately wrote to the seller asking for pictures of the bottom label on the box and the lipstick tube (Well as details such as finish and shade). I kn

Totally Fabby MAC Lipstick!

I'm in the middle of shopping for new products; sort of preparing for the transition from winter to spring. Instead of picking up deep burgundies and warm chocolates, I have started to pick up pastel pinks and vanillas. I cannot wait of the warmer weather to roll in.  MAC frost lipstick in the shade Fabby was one of those new seasonal additions I picked up recently. Fabby is a really muted rosy pink shade with a frost finish. The draw point, for me, is the frost sheen gives kind of a golden overlay to the lips. The golden tone just adds an extra dimension, and helps brighten up any makeup look.  For being a frost finish, the colour pigmentation is quite opaque with a single swipe. The texture is not that creamy, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I'd describe it more as very similar to that of a MAC matte finish; creamy and not glossy. I feel that Fabby is one of MACs more overlooked shades; passed over in favour of the more hyped about lipstic

Barry M Colour Changing Lip Paint in Neptune

Remember way, way back, back to the very beginning of my blog. One of the very first products that I reviewed was the Barry M Lip Paint in the shade Genie. For those who don't know, Genie is an unusual colour changing lipstick. While it looks green in the tube, it turns a shade of pink on the lips that is supposed to be different for each person. It is supposed to be a result of the lipstick reacting to the alkaline level of the lips.
