A Year of Beauty 2016

Happy New Year Everyone! I sincerely hope that it was a good one. I was very boring this year spending it at home with my family; movies, disney board games and nibbles can compare to nothing else. However, with 2016 now in the past, I thought I'd make my first post of the new year a beauty round up. The past year has been full of new beauty discoveries, some I'm still using and others I found to be a passing fad.

Base
The Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless is my ultimate foundation, ever! It gives me amazing coverage without looking too cakey on my face. My skin has changed from combination to more of the dry side which made me think that this foundation would no longer work for me. But, I am so glad that it is still has as nice a finish as ever. Now with the change in my skin type to the drier side, I tried to ditch the more silicone based primers in favour of those with moisturising properties. The Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur has been my primer of choice. It's moisturising without feeling anywhere near heavy. I went through two tubes of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in 2016; that says a lot. I enjoy how it doesn't dry too quickly and doesn't emphasise the fine lines under my eyes. I use the lightest colour Fair Neutral, which is the best colour match to my skin that I have ever tried.

Face
The NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder has been my go to face powder for the last two years. It's great for mattifying any shine on my face. I also enjoy using it to bake under my eyes using my damp Beautyblender. Even better, you get so much product in the tub for such a low price. The Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Baby Love is the perfect natural blush for everyday use. Hands down! This is the one blush that I can pick up and dust on without worrying if the colour will match or interfere with the other makeup that I am wearing. Now you won't find this for sale to the general public, but  hiding behind the blush is the Makeup Revolution Pro Illuminate. My favourite highlighter! This was released as part of a Makeup Revolution Christmas gift set in 2015.The pink-iridescent shade it perfect on my skin, and gives the nicest sheen to the tops of my cheeks. It's not too warm or too golden, but the perfect balance of cool toned pink and white shimmer.

Palette
There is one palette that will never let me down. The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette! The palette I go to when I just need to throw something on the lid and in the crease without having to put too much thought into it. The balance of colours in the palette means that I don't need anything else to complete a look. The scent is so yummy; I wish all my makeup could smell as sweet as this.

Eyes
If I ever need to apply eyeliner in a flash, impossible I know, the Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Liner is my go to. I can get a thin, precise line easily without any hassle. I am also in love with the brush tip applicator, in comparison to the felt tip liners.
One of my holy grail products that I will always repurchase. The Maybelline Color Tattoo in On and On Bronze is the perfect lazy day eye makeup. One swipe of this all over the lids is all I need to achieve an instant bronzed look. The L'oreal Volume Million Lashes So Couture is my favourite mascara of the year. It's what is constantly in my makeup bag. The effect it gives is nicely defined, thick black lashes, that are not too over the top for everyday wear.

Lips
This year was truly the year of the liquid lipstick; that is clearly reflected in my two choices for 2016's top lip products. I got really into brown based nude shades, and the NYX Liquid Suede in Sandstorm was my favourite out of them all. I can wear this without having to worry about it wearing off within a couple of hours. And the balance between brown and pink suits my skintone so well. The Rouge Edition Velvet is one of the creamiest, moisturising liquid lipsticks that I have ever worn. And the colour Nude-ist, is just so perfect for my skin tone. Bright and vibrant without being too over powering. Just a touch brighter than a 'my lips but better' shade.

Skincare
The MAC Cleanse Off Oil is the greatest product that I have ever used and I am so glad that I introduced it to my skincare routine. It is so great I bought myself a second bottle for Christmas due to spilling nearly half of my first bottle. The oil breaks down my makeup so well that I now longer wake up with slight panda eyes. But the best skincare product of 2016 has to be the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. This is a holy grail product, that which I cannot live without. It cleanses my skin so nicely after my MAC Cleanse Off Oil, that it feels so clean and soft afterwards.

Misc
There were a few beauty favourites that fell outside the above categories that I had to write about. The Jo Malone Cologne in Mimosa and Cardamom. What a heavenly smell! It smells so sweet and light that I cannot go without it. It is my signature scent now. I'm over half way through, so a new bottle will probably be in the cards for this year. Haircare is not something I heavily invest in, but the Toni & Guy Shine Gloss Serum is well worth it. On days that my hair is dull and a bit lacklustre, I just rub some lightly through my hair and it perks right up. However, the creme de la creme of my 2016 haircare was my Batiste Dry Shampoo. It has saved my life; all those 9am lectures and last minute meetings. I cannot live without a bottle, in fact there are five cans in my drawer already.

Writing this has made me so excited for the future. What will I discover this year that may make tin next years beauty round up? Will I see products from this list repeated? Only time will tell. Also please forgive any issues with my photos. I'm experimenting with my new Olympus Pen E-pl7 and still getting used to all the different functions.

I want to know: what is the one product that defines 2016 for you?

MAC: Fraud or Not?

It's getting to the time of year when  people start gathering together all there gifts in the rush to the holiday season. They start trying to get the best gifts possible for the best price they can. Unfortunately that leaves them vulnerable for people to take advantage of them. The most common form of this is through the use of counterfeit goods.  Recently a MAC lipstick was purchased for me, as a Christmas gift, from eBay. When I learned of it I was immediately sceptical and dubious of how genuine it was; I like to research into the item and view the pictures available myself. When I checked the listing, the lipstick was listed as 'MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick'. Upon looking at the details and the images available, I noticed that there were very few specifics and one general image of the lipstick with the lid off. I immediately wrote to the seller asking for pictures of the bottom label on the box and the lipstick tube (Well as details such as finish and shade). I kn

Totally Fabby MAC Lipstick!

I'm in the middle of shopping for new products; sort of preparing for the transition from winter to spring. Instead of picking up deep burgundies and warm chocolates, I have started to pick up pastel pinks and vanillas. I cannot wait of the warmer weather to roll in.  MAC frost lipstick in the shade Fabby was one of those new seasonal additions I picked up recently. Fabby is a really muted rosy pink shade with a frost finish. The draw point, for me, is the frost sheen gives kind of a golden overlay to the lips. The golden tone just adds an extra dimension, and helps brighten up any makeup look.  For being a frost finish, the colour pigmentation is quite opaque with a single swipe. The texture is not that creamy, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I'd describe it more as very similar to that of a MAC matte finish; creamy and not glossy. I feel that Fabby is one of MACs more overlooked shades; passed over in favour of the more hyped about lipstic

Barry M Colour Changing Lip Paint in Neptune

Remember way, way back, back to the very beginning of my blog. One of the very first products that I reviewed was the Barry M Lip Paint in the shade Genie. For those who don't know, Genie is an unusual colour changing lipstick. While it looks green in the tube, it turns a shade of pink on the lips that is supposed to be different for each person. It is supposed to be a result of the lipstick reacting to the alkaline level of the lips.
