Kat Von D Rock Candy Studded Kiss Lipstick Set


Now, I'm not one for super unusual or funky coloured lipsticks but when I saw this Kat Von D Rock Candy Studded Kiss Lipstick Set in Debenhams last month, I just had to buy it. The only lip products that I had tried previously from Kat Von D were the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, so I was super excited to try something new.


 The Rock Candy Studded Kiss Lipstick Set consists of six mini versions of Kat Von D's Studded Kis Lipsticks.  The six lipsticks within the set are noted to be all new super fun and bold shades, which drew my interest to it. I'm all for fun colours, but I still tend to go for colours in the 'nude' colour palette. I thought that this set would be a good opportunity to try loads of new colours without fully committing to the full sized product. The set contains, from to bottom: Zero, Roxy, Ozzy, Babe, Ziggy, and Crush.

Zero was my favourite out of the bunch, based on how much it actually suited me. I thought for sure that it would be my least favourite and the least pigmented, but I was sure surprised. Zero is a pale, dusty cool-toned grey shade. I found that this one gathered the most in the lines on my lips, but easily remedied by pressing my lips together.

Ozzy is a medium purple colour with a neutral undertone that, at first glance, reminds me of the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Susperia. Upon further comparison, Susperia is actually a little more of a warm, pinky toned purple shade. Similarly to Zero, I also found that Ozzy tended to sink into my lip lines. Perhaps because they were the two with a lighter base?

While Zero may be my favourite in the set, Roxy has a special place in my heart. When I first swatched on my lips, I was shocked at how much I liked it. Roxy is a vibrant, deep violet shade that is super unusual. I've not seen anything like it before. The thicker formula paired with Roxy being such a deep shade lead to the lipstick catching on the texture around my lips. Next time I wear this, I will have to wear a lip liner to help combat it.

Crush is a bright and bold, medium pink tone with a cool undertone. Out of the three pinks in the set, this one is my favourite. It has the right balance of bright and bold, without being too over the top. I feel like it is perhaps the most wearable lipstick in the set.

Babe is very similar to Crush, the difference between the two is that Babe is a bit brighter and lighter. I even had to triple check which was which because they look so similar in the photos! Honestly, if I didn't compare them side by side then I wouldn't see a difference at all. I did find that Babe didn't have the same amount of initial opacity as the others, it took a few swipes for everything to be even.

Ziggy is probably my least favourite of the set. It's not particularly one of my favourite shades of pink. Ziggy is a bright coral pink shade with a warm undertone. There did seem to be some areas of my lips where Ziggy clung to the dry patches of skin, which I didn't really notice as much with the others.I find that warm coral pinks do not flatter me at all. 

I really like the formula of the Studded Kiss Lipsticks. They are not quite a matte or a cream finish, but somewhere in the middle. They feel very velvety on the lips. The opacity of every single one of them achieves top marks. I was quite doubtful about Zero because of it being quite a light grey shade, but it had such full coverage. However, I did notice that the slightly thicker formula of the lipsticks led to them clinging to a couple of dry patches on my lips.

The amount of product that is in each product was a little bit disappointing. I knew with each being listed as 1g that there wouldn't be much, but it still was a bit of a let down. I feel that the set is worth more value if you want to try out a range of bright and unusual colours that aren't the norm.

Totally Fabby MAC Lipstick!

I'm in the middle of shopping for new products; sort of preparing for the transition from winter to spring. Instead of picking up deep burgundies and warm chocolates, I have started to pick up pastel pinks and vanillas. I cannot wait of the warmer weather to roll in.  MAC frost lipstick in the shade Fabby was one of those new seasonal additions I picked up recently. Fabby is a really muted rosy pink shade with a frost finish. The draw point, for me, is the frost sheen gives kind of a golden overlay to the lips. The golden tone just adds an extra dimension, and helps brighten up any makeup look.  For being a frost finish, the colour pigmentation is quite opaque with a single swipe. The texture is not that creamy, and I don't mean that in a bad way. I'd describe it more as very similar to that of a MAC matte finish; creamy and not glossy. I feel that Fabby is one of MACs more overlooked shades; passed over in favour of the more hyped about lipstic

Barry M Colour Changing Lip Paint in Neptune

Remember way, way back, back to the very beginning of my blog. One of the very first products that I reviewed was the Barry M Lip Paint in the shade Genie. For those who don't know, Genie is an unusual colour changing lipstick. While it looks green in the tube, it turns a shade of pink on the lips that is supposed to be different for each person. It is supposed to be a result of the lipstick reacting to the alkaline level of the lips.
